Webhosting without Domain Name Registration?

Strictly speaking, this is not possible. Each and every website that can be found in the depths of the Global Network must be associated with a domain name web hosting. However, the classical Domain Name Registration (DNR) where one acquires certain domain for certain period of time (minimum 1 year) can be avoided.
Instead of purchasing new DNR, one could host his site using a third-level domain… or forth, even fifth-level, etc. But before venturing into details let us outline the different levels of the DNR. They must be read from right to left, i.e. the first level is after the “.” – .com is an example of a Top-Level Domain (TLD). The part after the dot is the second level: mydomainname.com would be the second part.
Typically, when one goes for DNR it is a two-level domains that are registered: something.net, somethingelse.org, etc. However, depending on the hosting plan, one can enable third-level domains: news.something.net. The “News” section of something.net can be entirely different website, which has little to do with the target group, functionality, and purpose of the main website.
What is more, it can use the service of a different web hosting provider or at least a different hosting plan, custom-tailored for its needs. The subdomains are very handy within large organizations because they provide easier navigation for the end-user and ease up immensely the maintenance of the entire website. Very often they are free of charge or have symbolic fee and do not need renewal – as long as the main Domain Name is functioning the subdomains would keep on doing their job.
